Watch RuPaul In Every Type of Drag on 'Saturday Night Live'
RuPaul's historic SNL hosting gig was also amazing TV.
RuPaul made history this weekend hosting Saturday Night Live for the first time. He was the first drag queen to do so in the popular show's history, and the plum gig came after a 30+ year career and mutlple references of the performer on the series. But now, Ru is here and in every type of drag imaginable.
There were concerns -- we had them, you had them, anyone who knew Ru had them -- that RuPaul would be the first drag performer to host SNL but would do so not in drag. He actually spoke to that in the opening monologue -- after he said death drop, which he should really just remove from his vocabulary.
"I'm sure most of you are surprised to see me out of darg," he said to the audience, wearing a pink suit. "But trust, I am wearing my grandmother's panties for good luck." But as the show went on, Ru had multiple types of drag lined up for us. We got full high glam, Motha Ru, we got a little quick drag (which was frankly the most surprising) as well as various versions of boy drag. Raven and Curtis Williams who do Ru's makeup and hair respectively, really put in the work on that high glam look and we have to stan!
To be frank, the only think we were disappointed by is the fact that he didn't bring any RuPaul's Drag Race alum with him on the series. Maybe next time.
