What If James Baldwin Wrote ‘Practical Magic’?

Last year, Moonlight director Barry Jenkins released If Beale Street Could Talk, a gorgeous and moving adaptation of the novel of the same name by legendary mid-20th century queer writer James Baldwin. Baldwin was a political challenger who, at the time, was seen as one of the brightest minds of his generation of activism, especially when it came to his work against anti-blackness and homophobia. In addition to If Beale Street Could Talk, Baldwin also wrote the books Notes of a Native Son or The Fire Next Time.

In this week's episode of The Outcast, our dearly departed host Fran Tirado sat down with Out's director of entertainment and culture, Tre'vell Anderson, to talk about Baldwin's work and impact on queer culture, drawing from a piece published in Out's June/July Pride issue.
