Is the 'Love' in Thor: Love and Thunder same-sex love?
The first teaser for Taika Waititi's upcoming Marvel Studios film Thor: Love and Thunder debuted yesterday, and fans are already clamoring about the movie's style and look. But some fans haven't stopped there! They're also claiming that the film will feature not just Valkyrie as a queer superhero, but have Thor himself be queer as well.
We know for sure that the movie will have queer content. Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie is the current King of Asgard (and we see her looking very kingly in a well-tailored suit in the trailer) and will be looking for her queen.
There's even another canonically queer character is featured in the film, as the alien Korg (voiced by Waititi) seems to be traveling a lot with Thor in the teaser. Korg is canonically gay in the pages of Marvel comics, but won't have a romance in the film, at least according to Waititi's statements in 2020.
But still, many fans aren't satisfied and are starting to queerbait themselves into believing that the movie's main character, the God of Thunder himself, will be gay, all thanks to a joke in the trailer.
At one point in the teaser, Chris Hemsworth's Thor, who has been traveling with the Guardians of the Galaxy, is talking to Chris Pratt's Peter Quill, a.k.a. Star Lord.
"Remember what I told you," Quill tells him while looking over Thor's shoulder at his fellow Guardians. "You ever feel lost? Just look into the eyes of the people you love."
But Thor isn't looking anywhere except right into Peter's eyes, and yes, it is a loving look.
"Not me," Peter scoffs, catching Thor staring.
"What? Just listening," is Thor's excuse.
It's a cute exchange, but this is Disney and Marvel Studios after all, and there's no way it's anything more than just that.

Obviously, most of these tweets are probably meant with a lot of tongue-in-cheekiness, especially given Disney's recent "Don't Say Gay" controversies. But because of the heavy queerness in Waititi's other recent projects What We Do in the Shadows and Our Flag Means Death, some fans are taking it seriously, risking queerbaiting themselves.

To find out how gay the movie will be, you can watch Thor: Love and Thunder when it hits theaters on July 8.
