JoJo Siwa Has Left Will Smith Produced Movie Project Bounce

JoJo Siwa has bounced from her latest film project.

Siwa, who has quickly become a gay icon since publicly coming out in January of 2021, was set to make her feature film debut in the upcoming movie adaptation of the young adult novel Bounce. However, Variety now reports that not only is she no longer attached to the project, but that the project itself has been removed from Paramount's development slate.

Based on a YA book of the same name, Bounce was a body swap movie about a girl (Siwa) who makes a wish she could trade her family for a new one on Christmas Eve. Then, "her wish is granted and she finds herself 'bouncing' into the lives of other girls and living Christmas Day on repeat - learning the value of family, finding your voice, and the power of love," according to a description of the film.

The movie was going to be produced by Will Smith, along with Jada Pinkett's brother Caleeb Pinkett. The movie being canceled has nothing to do with the recent Oscars controversy, and actually happened months ago, according to the report.

"That project got put on hold, and then went away," Siwa had told Variety at the GLAAD Media Awards this past weekend. "It wasn't the one."

She added that her departure had nothing to do with Smith's Oscar slap. "I normally stay out of all politics, it's not my gig," she said. "But I will say that being kind to one another is very important. I think that can go both ways, kindness."

Siwa is still staying booked and busy though. She was recently announced as one of the new judges for the upcoming new season of So You Think You Can Dance. There she'll be joined by Glee's Matthew Morrison and former judge Stephen "tWitch" Boss. The new season of the popular dance show returns to Fox on May 18 following the season finale of The Masked Singer on Fox.

She's also busy in her own personal life, recently revealing that she has a new relationship after breaking up with her girlfriend Kylie Prew last year.

"We're not single," Siwa said on the Rachel Uncensored podcast. "I say 'we're' because it's me and my multiple personalities within myself...I am not single and I don't want to mingle. No, I'm a loyal lady."

"Listen, I went around the block," she said elsewhere in the podcast interview. "I did, and I tried a lot, and I learned a lot and I'm very, very, very happy where I am now."
