Kristen Stewart would like her Oscar nomination now.
The first, absolutely gorgeous, trailer for the Stewart-starring drama Spencer has just dropped, and we are absolutely eating it up.
“Every fairy tale ends.
Kristen Stewart is Diana Spencer.
A glimpse at Pablo Larraín's SPENCER.
In Theaters Nov. 5”— NEON (@NEON) 1629903602
Full of sumptuous sets and costumes, the trailer includes some iconic looks from one of the most fashionable princesses in history. More importantly, it has Stewart, and she is perfect. There's so much longing and weight in every look she gives, her whole life is written on her face.
"The marriage of Princess Diana and Prince Charles has long since grown cold," the description for the movie reads. "Though rumors of affairs and a divorce abound, peace is ordained for the Christmas festivities at the Queen's Sandringham Estate."
"There's eating and drinking, shooting, and hunting. Diana knows the game," it continues. "But this year, things will be profoundly different."
Overlaid with Lou Reed's "Perfect Day," the trailer takes us to the royal estate where the whole weekend takes place. Yes, it's extravagant and beautiful, but it's also stifling -- a prison that Diana is trapped in, just like her marriage.
It's a perfect role for Stewart, a talented actress who knows what it's like to be a woman trapped in a loveless relationship with a man. This actually seems like the perfect project for her. I think Stewart has an Oscar nomination in her future.
This is one of several Diana-focused projects recently. The latest season of The Crown starred Emma Corrin as the famous princess, and Corrin won a Golden Globe and has been nominated for an Emmy for the role.
Spencer is directed by Pablo Larrain and also stars Timothy Spall, Jack Farthing, Sean Harris, and Sally Hawkins. It debuts in theaters on November 5. We can't wait to see it!
