Wife and wife team Tig Notaro and Stephanie Allynne (One Mississippi) are teaming up once again to co-direct their debut feature, based on the real-life story of Ellen DeGeneres Show head writer Lauren Pomerantz according to a Deadline exclusive. Talk about power lesbians!
The so-far unnamed movie will follow Lucy, a thirty-something who "embarks on a personal journey" with her best friend Jane that will test their friendship and Lucy's sense of self. Deadline says that the two friends have "learned pretty much everything about life and each other," but when Lucy goes on a personal journey, she'll "face a test of her friendship, and her sense of self, on a path she may not be entirely ready to take."
Notaro told Deadline that the plot gives a new take on the classic lesbian coming-of-age story. Allynne added that "Nothing interests me more than a character whose self-determination, curiosity, and bravery is directed inward, igniting the possibility to awaken one's true authentic self."
Pomoerantz talked about what an amazing collaboration it's been. "If I had known that coming out would lead to getting to work with Tig, Stephanie, and this producing team, I would've come out so much sooner," she joked. "But then I wouldn't have had this story to tell, and I am so excited that they are helping me tell it."
Pomerantz wrote the mostly-autobiographical script herself, and Gloria Sanchez and Level Forward will produce. The movie will start filming in Los Angeles in early 2020.
Notaro and Allynne are also currently working on First Ladies for Netflix, based on their original pitch about America's first woman president and her wife. Jennifer Aniston will play the president and Notaro herself will be playing the First Lady. Thank you for giving us all the wlw content we need.
