Zachary Quinto is Gay

Zachary Quinto--the actor best known for playing Spock in the 2009 Star Trek movie, and Sylar in Heroes on NBC--has publicly come out of the closet.

In an interview in the latest issue of New York magazine, he talks about two events that inspired his decision to finally live openly: his 8-week run in the play Angels in America, and the growing number of gay teen suicides sweeping the country, most recently the tragic death of Jamey Rodemeyer. He posted a touching note on his website this morning, :

"... in light of Jamey's [Rodemeyer] death, it became clear to me in an instant that living a gay life without publicly acknowledging it--is simply not enough to make any significant contribution to the immense work that lies ahead on the road to complete equality. our society needs to recognize the unstoppable momentum toward unequivocal civil equality for every gay lesbian bisexual and transgendered citizen of this country."

Quinto also recently created a "It Gets Better" video encouraging gay teens in trouble to reach out--to the Trevor Project, to anywhere--if they need help.
