Trixie Mattel first became a national star when she was on season seven of RuPaul's Drag Race, and since then her spotlight has done nothing but get brighter. Now she's getting ready to shine that light all across the country with a new upcoming concert tour, Trixie Mattel: Grown Up, Entertainment Weekly reports.
Mattel promises the new tour, which includes 29 North American stops, will include "ambitious reveals, costume changes, and wigs on wigs on wigs." Girl, that's my kind of party!
Drag's favorite Barbie doll is s stepping this tour up because now that she's turned 30, she feels like she's in a new phase of her life. "I want people to leave and be like, 'That was hilarious, the guitar playing was great, and did not have to do five costume changes in the first number -- but she did!" Mattel said.
For the look of the show, Mattel is reaching into the past. "I rewatched the first three seasons of The Brady Bunch, I collect almost entirely 1965-1973 Barbies, and through the last year I've been deep-diving into old, vintage fashions," Mattel said. We love a throwback queen!
This new tour is in support of Mattel's upcoming third album, Barbara, which represents a new, more personal, direction for the queen, as well as a classic 60's sound. She says the name came from fellow queen Katya, but that it's "also a fun, beautiful, retro-sounding name."
"It's kind of like a rewind, before I got really into country as an adult, I was into 60's music as a kid," Mattel said, "and because Barbie's real name is Barbara, so I was trying to refine Trixie, cook her down, and see what's really there. It's the full name of my personal material." I can't wait to meet this new, more personal Trixie!
Trixie Mattel: Grown Up debuts in Seattle, Washington on February 5, and goes through March 15. Pre-sale tickets are available on Mattel's website starting Wednesday, October 23. Regular sale tickets go on sale Friday, October 25.
