Aubrey Plaza is becoming one of the usual suspects.
The bisexualHappiest Season actor is set to star in the upcoming film Emily The Criminal, as the titular Emily the criminal. She's also on board as a producer for the film.
Emily The Criminal follows a woman named Emily "who is down on her luck and saddled with debt" and "who gets involved in a credit card scam that pulls her into the criminal underworld of Los Angeles, ultimately leading to deadly consequences." Ooooh, we can't wait to see Aubrey get down and dirty!
The movie is being written and directed by John Patton Ford, in his feature film directorial debut. Gina Gershon and Megalyn Echikunwoke have also been cast.
Plaza has long been a fan-favorite actor, known for her roles in Parks and Recreation and FX's Legion, but she really broke out in last Christmas' Happiest Season. In that lesbian rom-com, she played Riley, a doctor, and the ex-girlfriend of Mackenzie Davis' Harper, who deserved much, much better than she got.
This is the third film Plaza has produced and starred in, following 2018's Ingrid Goes West and this year's Black Bear. Next, she'll be starring in Guy Ritchie's upcoming action flick with Jason Statham.
That still-untitled film follows "an M16 guns-and-steel agent (Statham) who is recruited by a global intelligence alliance to track down and stop the sale of a deadly new weapons technology that threatens to disrupt the world order."
She's also going to star alongside Ramon Rodriguez in the Hulu pilot Olga Dies Dreaming, based on the book by Xochitl Gonzalez. That series follows "a Nuyorican brother and sister from gentrifying Sunset Park in Brooklyn who are reckoning with their absent, politically radical mother and their glittering careers among New York City's elite in the wake of Hurricane Maria."
The more Aubrey Plaza we have in our lives, the better!
