Lil Nas X's BET Awards performance of his hit song "MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)" set the internet on fire last month, but not everyone was happy with it...
While many praised the artist for his groundbreaking performance, others felt that a man kissing other men was inappropriate for the show. A few of those people even complained to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), saying it shouldn't have been shown on television.
Well, TMZ has acquired those complaints -- and there were only three.
"I was very disturbed to see 2 men practically having sexual in the stage when the awards show is supposed to be a family show," one angry viewer wrote. "It's ridiculous and children and adults are being forced to endure this. Unacceptable and I will be unsubscribing from BET network. DISGUSTING AND DISTURBING!!!!!!!!"
It's noted that this person wrote their comment at 1 o'clock in the morning, when surely they had something better to be doing.
Another complaint was more simple. "During a performance 2 gay men kissed. Why are you showing this on tv. It is disgusting and wrong for kids to see because it's unnatural."
The third complaint filed to the FCC about the performance wasn't even about the kissing. It only complained that "satanism shouldn't be broadcast on a family-oriented show." Hey, at least this person isn't homophobic.
One upside to this is that there were only three complaints about the performance sent to the FCC. In comparison, Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion's scissoring "WAP" performance at the Grammys received over 1,000 complaints.
Obviously, the Grammys have a larger audience than the BET Awards, but still, this is maybe a sign that it really does get better.
Nas has been completely unbothered by the whole thing. "We are 4 months in and people are still acting surprised that I am being gay and sexual in performances of a song about gay and sexual shit," he tweeted after the performance.

He also has been dunking on others who are calling out his BET performance as being confusing for children who might have been watching. Rapper Benzino said that he found the performance "too uncomfortable, too irresponsible, too forced and too irrelevant to the awards" and that he didn't know how parents would be able to explain it to their kids. X was having none of that.
“i’m sorry but the thought of niggas sitting their kids down in the living room and telling them gay people exist is so hilarious to me”— i am reading all that (@i am reading all that) 1625078320
Haters keep on trying to bring Lil Nas X down, but so far, nothing has worked. We look forward to his continued reign as the new queer king of pop!
