The sexuality of Dear Evan Hansen's main characters isn't the only thing that left Twitter confused after the first trailer for the musical movie came out this week.
"Raise your hand if felt personally victimized by Ben Platt's wig this morning," tweeted writer Jorge Molina on Tuesday, and based on other tweets, thousands of people raised their hands.

A search for "Ben Platt Wig" on Twitter comes up with hundreds and hundreds of results, enough for you to scroll through for hours. "I have seen a lot of concern about Ben Platt's age but not nearly enough concern about Ben Platt's WIG," one user tweeted. "Who did this??? I have not stopped thinking about it for 72 straight hours."

But just like any Oscar-worthy musical, there's a big third act twist! It's not a wig.
In a now-deleted tweet, Ben Platt, Evan Hansen himself, cleared things up. "I'm v flattered that ppl think my locks are a wig," he tweeted. "And I hate to burst bubbles, but sadly those are my own jew curls."
If you do more research, the actor even talked about growing out his hair for the role in a recent Vanity Fair article. "I'd lost about 15 pounds and did a very specific diet, grew my hair out, and was shaving to make sure that I didn't look like I had five o'clock shadow all the time, you know," he said. "I was just stripping myself into being a teenager for the last time. For what is hopefully the last time."
Some have also been criticizing the casting of 27-year-old Platt as a 16 year old character, but it is worth it to note that the musical received its most glowing reviews when Platt was in the role. Further, he not only originated the role on Broadway, but won a Tony, Grammy, and an Emmy for it. He has a chance to become the first person to win an EGOT for one role. The honor would also make him the youngest to EGOT.
But at the end of the day, no matter what his hair looks like -- and whether the plot is actually gay or not, -- we are dying to see Dear Evan Hansen on the big screen. The film premieres in theaters September 24.
