Two icons are coming together, as Elton John gets his first ever Barbie doll! Mattel released a brand-new limited edition-Barbie doll styled after legendary musician and cultural touchstone. The Barbie doesn't look like the singer physically, but is instead styled like the fashion icon wearing rainbows, glitter, and of course some giant pink statement sunglasses.
According to Mattel, "the Elton John Barbie doll is a bold collaboration that personifies two cultural icons and honors the extraordinary artistry and musicianship of a stellar performer." It's a must-have for fans of Elton or Barbie.
The website says the doll "shines bright in a glittery top and flared denim embellished with Elton's sparkling initials. Her 'Elton' embossed bomber jacket features star-printed sleeves and a rainbow-striped hem. Nods to the artist's iconic style include rainbow striped platform boots, a purple bowler hat, and sparkly, pink tinted sunglasses." And damn, does she look good.
Elton John talked to Rolling Stone about the doll, saying "Barbie is an icon in her own right, so having her pay tribute to my work and personal style is a real honor." He added that "I hope she inspires fans everywhere to fearlessly pursue their own dreams and limitless potential."
The doll, designed by Caroline DeMersseman, marks the 45th anniversary of John's legendary record-breaking two-night concert at Dodger Stadium in 1975. Currently the dolls are limited to two per person, but that's subject to change. You can buy it now for $50.
